Kremlin once again spreading fakes about Azov corps

Russian media outlets, pro-war Telegram channels, and bots on the social media platform are circulating claims that a U.S. citizen named Mike Robinson is allegedly the uncle of Tyler Robinson, the suspect in the murder of American political activist Charlie Kirk. According to this narrative, Mike Robinson is somehow connected to the 1st Azov Corps of Ukraine’s National Guard. As supposed “evidence,” propagandists point to a LinkedIn post in which he allegedly sought contact with Ukrainian servicemen.

This is fake. Mike Robinson is not the uncle of Tyler Robinson, who is suspected of killing the American activist. He refuted the claim on his LinkedIn page, adding that he is ready to sue those spreading this disinformation.

Robinson also has no ties to the training of Ukrainian troops or to Azov fighters. He has indeed been to Ukraine, but only for humanitarian purposes. His profile notes that he served as director of the volunteer organization Radio Free Ukraine, which focused on raising awareness about the war in Ukraine and supporting civilians affected by Russian aggression.

The LinkedIn post cited by propagandists does not prove any cooperation with Azov. In fact, it only mentioned a willingness to host a veteran or a wounded fighter from the 1st Azov Corps of the National Guard, not to conduct military training.

Furthermore, after Charlie Kirk’s murder, not a single international media outlet reported any Ukrainian involvement. The claim first appeared on the anonymous X account FrauHodl, a bot used to spread fake news and disinformation. It was later amplified in the Russian segment of X and on pro-Kremlin Telegram channels. This indicates the fake clearly originates from Russia and is aimed at discrediting Ukraine.

American political activist Charlie Kirk was shot in the neck and killed during a speech at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. Tyler Robinson has been named as the suspect. According to FBI Director Kash Patel, investigators found DNA evidence linking him to the murder. It was also reported that Robinson was an activist with Antifa, which was designated a terrorist organization in the United States following the attack.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, Russian sources had previously spread a false claim that Ukrainian drone debris was found in Lithuania.
